International Defensive Pistol Association announces 2011 World Championship in Frostproof, Florida

The International Defensive Pistol Association claims more than 17,008, members who call over 50 countries home.   With such interest and numbers, it’s no wonder the IDPA will be holding the inaugural IDPA World Championship from September 21st to 24th of this year.

What we like about the IDPA is that they are not some coterie of professional shooters—the club is geared towards gun enthusiasts of all colors creeds and abilities from novice to gunslinger.

With a well like that to pull from, interest in the event has been so fervent, event planners have already had to redesign the competition with an extra day to match to accommodate expected shooters. Competitors will compete over leisurely over the course of two half days allowing families and friends ample time to visit firearm and gear vendor booths and take in side matches and some of the attractions the area has to offer.

The competition will take place at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida, which is unabashedly an incentive to back up the family for a vacation.  Located smack dab in the middle between three major cities, Orlando, Tampa Bay and Fort Myers, flights in and out are plentiful you’ll have about an hours drive to some of Florida’s most famous tourist attractions like Disney World (which is 100 theme parks in one), Universal Studios and Sea World.

Encouraged by the international turnout at the 2010 National Championship, showcasing a record setting 392 competitors with 62 competitors coming from outside the US, the World Championship hopes to both substantially increase these numbers and foster competitive shootings reputation as a global sport.

There are a wide range of sponsorship opportunities for this match with options to fit any budget. If you would like to be a part of this exciting sport, please contact IDPA for more details.
