Shooting at Ohio High School Kills One Student, Injures Four Others

At the start of the school day Monday morning a shooting occurred in an Ohio high school, killing one student and wounding four others. The suspect, who is believed to be a student, was arrested a short distance away near his car.

The 1,100 students of Chardon High School were evacuated to the nearby Maple Elementary School. Television footage showed parents anxiously escorting their children away from a school and a series of ambulances outside. A hospital spokeswoman stated that five students were taken to Cleveland-area hospitals, but the condition of the victims was not immediately disclosed. The victims may have been students at a nearby school who were waiting for a bus to take them there.

The suspect was taken into custody about half a mile away from the school, according to FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson. One student told CNN affiliate WEWS that the suspect may have posted a threatening message on Twitter before the shooting.
