Grandmother Shoots Armed Robber with .38 caliber Revolver

Move over, Batman, the streets have another vigilante hero. Lulu Campbell, a Georgia grandmother, staved off two (yes, two) armed robbers yesterday. Lulu had just dropped her 15 year old grandson off at her daughter’s house when the armed men approached her car, brandished a gun, and demanded money.

We almost can’t believe that this is real. Two armed robbers approaching an innocent grandma on her way back from spoiling her grandson with too many sweets and stories about the good ol’ days? What were the bad guys going to do afterwards — twirl their mustaches and then tie a maiden to a railroad track while laughing maniacally?

Well, Lulu was having none of that. The 57-year-old, who owns several convenience stores and gas stations, whipped out a .38 caliber revolver that she always carries and entered a shootout after assailants fired at her. And don’t for one second think that this was a geriatric shootout, either. Lulu’s truck was blasted with nearly a dozen bullets. Both front side windows were shot out and nine bullet holes riddled the sides of her truck. We’re not sure what gun they were using, but it sounds like the bad guys panicked and emptied their clip.

Lulu proved to be the better marksman. She shot one assailant, 32-year-old Brenton Lance Spencer, who was hospitalized. The police have charged him with aggravated assault and attempted armed robbery.

When Spencer inevitably finds himself in the slammer (how does your lawyer defend against “you shot at a grandma?”) we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that he’s going to lie when he gets asked “So, what’re you in for?”
