Hornady’s Anti-Zombie Bullets: Get ‘em While They’re Hot!

Hornady’s line of Z-Max bullets (“MAKE DEAD PERMANENT”) are apparently selling like hot cakes.

This recent wave of zombie-esque attacks have left many people worried that the zombie apocalypse is coming. Citizens everywhere are preparing themselves by shoveling over cash for Z-Max bullets, CBS Detroit reports.

But here’s the burning question: what on earth are zombie bullets? How can an ammunition manufacturer possibly design a bullet specifically for a threat that hasn’t ever existed? Steve Hornady, the president of Hornady (if you couldn’t guess that by the name) claims that the company basically designed the bullets following simple logic. He told Guns & Ammo magazine, “Well, head shots or brain stem are the only effective shots on Zed so we focused on rapid fire quick recovery rounds.”

Hmm… That makes sense, actually. Hornady continued, “There was considerable debate about the shotgun round since, in my opinion, accurate shot placement is important. If Zed is close enough to reliably hit the brain with a shotgun then your situation may be dire indeed, and shotgun ammo is heavy, so you simply cannot carry as much as you will need.”

So, is this the end-all-be-all round for the end of the world? Hard to say for sure, and hopefully we’ll never have to find out!

One of the reasons for the popularity of the ammo, Hornady suspects, is that fans of the zombie genre are buying the bullets as a novelty item: “I mean, I’ve heard of guys who buy it just because they think the packaging is cool and they set it on their cube and they don’t even own a gun. It has that sort of cross-market appeal.”

Zombies may try to eat your brains, but at least they’re helping to raise public awareness about guns and gun rights. Good job, zombies.
