Sometimes, we have to take a break from gun news to spend time honoring the brave men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. Today, we will salute Sgt. Nibbles, a soldier who nearly paid the ultimate price in service to his country. Just recently, Sgt. Nibbles selflessly dove onto a hand grenade in order to save one of his fellow soldiers. The Army released live battlefield footage of the grisly combat. Watch at your own discretion, because the video is quite graphic:
Somehow, Sgt. Nibbles managed to survive the explosion. He spent two months recovering from his injury and another four months in physical therapy before returning to his backyard home in Los Angeles, California. President Obama honored Sgt. Nibbles in an award ceremony last week, where the war hero stood along several other pooches who answered the call of duty. Sgt. Nibbles received the Medal of Honor and a rawhide bone for his sacrifice. He chewed up both of them.
