Hoppe’s, legendary manufacturer of firearm cleaning products, is putting together two new kits to weather the zombie storm. These two new kits, one for common handgun calibers and the other for rifles and shotguns, are a step up from their current BoreSnake kits and are actually worth looking into.
Like any good zombie-themed gun product, these are nearly day-glow green cleaning kits, at least on the outside. Both the handgun and long gun kits come in reinforced, hinged and lockable carrying cases that are considerably more durable than Hoppe’s standard translucent and flimsy plastic cases.
The Elite Zombie Cleaning kits have everything you need for cleaning your guns in the field. They’re not for deep, heavy-duty, nooks-and-crannies cleaning, they’re for keeping guns in the most popular calibers running, and getting them clean quickly.
Inside both kits is a nylon brush, a 4-ounce bottle of Hoppe’s Elite Gun Cleaner, a 4-ounce bottle of Gun Oil with T3 and a wax-treated cleaning cloth. The handgun kit has BoreSnakes for 9mm/.38 caliber, .40 S&W and .45/.44 caliber handguns. The long gun kit has BoreSnakes for .223 Remington/5.56 NATO and .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO rifles and 12-gauge shotguns.
Both kits will be available for $60 starting next January as part of Hoppe’s 2013 catalog, just in time for the holidays to be over. Which is a shame, because they’re pretty nice kits and would make great gifts for your undead-despising loved ones.
Hoppe’s has been making gun care and cleaning products since 1903, and laugh all you want, they plan to survive the zombie apocalypse. It’s part of their long-term plan. Also, yeah, it’s good marketing right now.
And if you’re not into the whole zombie apocalypse thing, just think of these as premium, high-visibility green cleaning kits that you will never, ever lose track of, even if you’re out shooting well past sunset. They’re a cut above Hoppe’s BoreSnake kits with their hard cases and larger-volume bottles of oil and cleaner.
A lot of companies are in the dark when it comes to zombie products, but Hoppe’s isn’t one of them. These kits are utilitarian, accessibly-priced and fill a gap in their product line nicely. They’re also super green which, for once, really works in these products’ favor. About the only thing we can criticize is the name. Elite Zombie Cleaning Kit? Who cares if they’re dirty, just send them back to their graves.
