BREAKING: NRA Releases Statement on Connecticut Shooting

After the gun community and general public have been calling for a response from the gun lobby since the tragic event that occurred on Friday Dec. 14 in Newtown, Connecticut, the NRA released a statement today.

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.

well, once again, guns are being blamed. they say outlaw guns and the violence will go away. I don't think so. it is like cocaine, out law it and you will do away with drug abuse. it is illegal in all states, but you can get it on any corner. thousands of years ago, people were killing people, but there were no guns. the early settlers here were killed and no guns. oklahoma city was a site of mass murder using fertilizer. 911 used planes and box cutters. so when you thinbk about it, it isn't the guns it is the people.

Jeff Loiselle I agree. I haven't had the time to look everything over from this last shooting but I spent untold hours researching the Auroa shooting and there is NO way James Holmes shot anyone. That was done by the LIBOR people and those who want us to sign the UN small arms treaty. My guess is this shooting was the same thing.

If I believed for a second that disarmament would guarantee that things like Sandy Hook won't happen I'd be the first in line to hand mine in. The problem is - as has already been pointed out people don' t need guns to commit murder even on a mass scale. In OC and 9/11 thousands were mass murdered without the use of a single gun.

What disarmament does do is all but guarantee absolute compliance with unlawful acts by the government. Don't think this is the case? Take a history lesson... Ever heard of Tiananmen Square? Maybe next time it's Times Square....

What happens when it's the government that's doing the shooting?

BUT this is America... that kind of thing don't happen here.... Well up until a few days ago I'd have said the exact same thing about elementary school kids getting murdered at school.

The reason things like that do not happen here is because we have the ability to resist even the government if necessary.

I am a father myself. I understand why people would get behind banning guns right after a tragedy like this but on the other hand we cannot allow knee jerk emotional reactions to destroy our Constitutional rights. The entire point of being a "country of laws" (ie the Constitution) is to protect people's rights and keep emotions out of our governing decisions.

What I am about to say is nothing more than a bit of historical knowledge combined with basic common sense, and therefore I realize that the Libtard mind is incapable of understanding it, but here goes anyway. Mass murders have been happening on this planet since a sharpened rock tied to the end of a stick with a bit of rawhide was a state of the art weapon, long before the invention of gun powder, and even if we could somehow magically make all the hundreds of millions of firearms out there suddenly disappear mass murders would continue to happen. A big brain, opposable thumbs & an evil heart are all that is required to commit murder, and as long as humans are on this planet murders will continue to happen, guns or no guns!

ALL recent mass shootings have taken place in 'gun-free' zones. If we need a common thread, this is it. Laws MUST be enacted swiftly to eliminate, and outlaw, 'gun-free' killing fields. In 1997, in Mississippi, the principal of a school prevented a mass shooting with his personal sidearm. Today, of course, he would have been fired, if not jailed for the mere possession of the firearm.

I have already written both of my senators. Since Feinstein is looking to resurrect the failed "Assault" weapons ban, it is critical that you all write both of your senators, urging them to take steps to insure that no new gun 'control' laws are enacted. If anything, we need to pass reciprocity for concealed carry permits, and a law insuring that there can no longer be 'gun-free' zones.

The ONLY possible effect video games MIGHT have is that they encourage solitary behaviour. Adding isolationist activities to an already unstable person MAY have an effect. Maybe. Remember, most of us grew up playing 'cops & robbers', etc with our friends and neighbors with cap guns, water pistols, nerf, etc, etc, etc. The 'violence' on tv had no effect on us. The difference is we engaged in healthy social interaction with our friends, neighbors, and classmates. The Principal of Columbine High School has stated thath the solution is **NOT** more gun laws, but better access to mental health care.

it's obvious you haven't seen these video games out there now. i remember my Fanner 50 pistol with holster.....cap guns.......etc. take a half baked teen mind......lock him up in a room with a theatre sized video screen.......someone introverted like lanza....and let the fantasy take over.....obviously his mother didn't stand a chance..... people are vetted more on car insurance than they are on guns. wouldn't bother me if they had a question on the fed form.......is there someone in your household that is mental? car insurance companies sure as hell want to know if there is another 'driver' in the household whether or not they have driving priveleges. the mental aspect has to be dealt with

Violent video games do not cause violent behavior. What they do is desensitize people to violence, especially young people, whose reasoning abilities have not fully developed. Social loners are at more of a risk because they tend to lack feeligs of empathy, seeing no difference between human beings and the images on the video games.
