When the air burns,
Only the dead,
Well, it’s not like they gotta be poets.
The last of the French combat troops have been pulled out of Afghanistan this month, with about 1,500 staying around Kabul to continue training Afghan soldiers and coordinate the repatriation of French supplies that have been deployed.
French jokes aside, the people I’ve spoken to who have worked with these soldiers have nothing but good things to say. I’d be willing to bet that a good number of these French troops will be staying behind to “train soldiers” and “coordinate supplies” with extreme prejudice.
And it’d be hard to find any French troops who aren’t really dedicated at this point, as a huge percentage of the French military has been working without pay for more than a year now. When they say “volunteer army,” they freaking mean it.
