Georgia Mother Shoots Home Invader to Protect Kids (VIDEO)

On Friday, a woman in Loganville, GA, was at home with her 9-year-old twins when she noticed a strange man scouting her property.

The woman called her husband to find out if he was expecting any visitors.  When her husband said he wasn’t, she knew something was afoot.

The man knocked on her door and when she didn’t answer he retrieved a crowbar from his vehicle and began breaking into her residence.

Frightened but not in a panic, the woman grabbed her .38 revolver and along with her two children hid in an upstairs crawlspace.  Still on the phone with her husband, the two called 911.

The police would get there as soon as possible – but not before the invader found the woman and her children in the crawlspace.

“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told WSBTV’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

At this point, it came down to a simple decision: use force to protect herself and her children or be at the mercy of the burglar with the crowbar.

The brave mother opted to do the former, firing all six rounds at the intruder.  The man was hit five times, according to Sheriff Chapman.

“She comes out of the crawlspace and she’s standing over the perpetrator, who she says is crying, telling her to stop shooting,” said Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman.

With the man now wounded, the woman led her children to safety at a neighbor’s house.  There, she waited for the police to arrive.

Meanwhile, the wounded burglar got up and fled the scene.  Though, as he began driving away, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into some trees.

Police found the man lying in a driveway.  “Help me.  I’m close to dying,” he told the first responders.

The man was identified as 32-year-old Atlanta resident Paul Slater, an apparent career criminal who had been arrested at least six times since 2008.  He was brought to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.  If he survives, Slater will face burglary charges.

As for the mother, by all accounts, she is a hero.

“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner,” Donnie Herman, the victim’s husband, told WSBTV.

“Her life is saved, and her kids’ life is saved, and that’s all I’d like to say,” Herman added.

Sheriff Chapman said the woman will not face any charges, that the shooting was justified.

Indeed it was – your thoughts?
