Bulgarian politician Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, looked down the barrel of attempted assassin Oktai Enimehmedov’s gun last week. The compact pistol misfired, allowing time for Enimehmedov to be tackled and detained by security. There were also reports of Enimehmedov being beaten by crowd members. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms represents ethnic Turks and Muslims, who make up a small percentage of Bulgaria’s population. Dogan is leader of that party and is scheduled to step down when a new representative leader is elected.
