LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Open Letter to the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie regarding the NRA

The following was written and submitted by Guns.com reader Todd Brian.

For too long the law-abiding citizens of the state of New Jersey and this country have allowed those with a political agenda and their lobbyist to run rough shod over the liberties that they swore to secure. How can one label the recent National Rifle Association ad as ‘reprehensible’ yet not question the President’s motives? Better yet, how can you not question his actions? With “Gun Runner”, the ATF shipped over 2,000 guns into Mexico. The result was the deaths of hundreds of Mexican citizens as well as at least three known U.S. citizens.

Contrary to the U.S. Constitution, the NDAA gives the president the authority to order the indefinite detainment, torture and execution of any U.S. citizen without trial. The President said he would not sign the NDAA but he did. He said he would not use it but he did. The President however does not stand alone in ignoring the just laws of this country as the majority of the house and all but three Senators said “yea” and passed the bill.

Like every sworn official in government, one of the NRA’s charters is protect the rights of gun-owners. Unlike the majority of those sworn to do so, the NRA is actually attempting to do so. They say, “If you are going to wrestle a pig, expect to get muddy”. It difficult to believe that the NRA has lowered the bar of political comment sufficiently to warrant the term ‘reprehensible’, perhaps the Governor really means that the NRA’s stance on the Second Amendment is reprehensible.

In case the Governor has forgotten, here is the New Jersey oath of office:

“I, , do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New Jersey, and that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same and to the Governments established in the United States and in this State, under the authority of the people So help me God.”

If the NRA’s actions are reprehensible, how does Gov. Chris Christie classify the words and deeds of the oath breakers actively undermining the first, second, fourth, fifth and tenth amendments?

Sincerely,

Todd Brian
