Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. has recently made headlines with his advertisement suggesting Milwaukee residents arm themselves in effort to defend themselves against violent crime.
“With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option,”
“You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”
“Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now. Can I count on you?”
Sheriff Clarke appeared on Pier Morgan’s CNN show Tuesday night where he unable to get a word in sideways with Morgan. In what seems to be now acceptable in cable news interviews, Morgan repeatedly interrupted Clarke while talking over him. Morgan accused Sherrif Clarke of using a “Hollywood voice”, calling him “irresponsible” and stating “you haven’t got a clue, have you?”
“You want to arm everybody in Milwaukee. You do these racy Hollywood-style adverts, you want them all out there, armed and shooting… What you’re creating is a return to the Wild West in Milwaukee. So I think it’s actually relevant that you don’t have any idea how many people actually need a firearm at home to defend themselves.”
Sheriff Clarke asked Morgan if they could have a civil debate and that he not be talked over. He also told Morgan that his advertisement was just his regular voice, not a “Hollywood” one.
