CNN highlights the ridiculousness of an AR ban. Just simply looking at the numbers CNN lays out how rifles and shotguns combined constitute less than 4% of the 11,000 gun deaths in the United States.

No, it can't be so, is the liberal media starting to see the light.. And it's CNN no less, whatever will Piers Morgan have say about this.. As long as we keep the pressure on, the left/liberals will continue to lose ground, that's why they want to get it(gun bans, etc.) to vote as soon as possible...If we can hold out just a little longer, re-enforcements will arrive, I can hear the bugle call now...

WOW! Even CNN is taking this kind of a stance. Still that 11,000 is bull crap because it even includes justified homicides such as cops shooting and self defense shootings.

Sounds to me that CNN wants to ban all gun, because that "COULD" make a difference.

if 72% are handguns and 8% are rifles and shotguns that's 80%. What are the other 20%? Can't possibly be zip guns. 2200 people killed by cane guns, pen guns, maybe air rifles? I think there is a problem with the 72% probably really is 92%.

Something is funny about their math. Rifles = 4%; Shotguns = 4%; Handguns = 72% of all "gun murders." What about the missing 20% of "gun murders?" Is there some mysterious category of firearm that doesn't fit within those groups? Maybe we're going to hear "20% of gun murders are committed with a new type of firearm known as lead accelerators, designed to kill hundreds of people very quickly with no sporting or hunting purpose."

And they wonder why we don't trust the media.

I think knives, bricks, 4 x 2s, clubs, and baseball bats are responsible for the remaining 20%. All up close and personal stuff. Here in New Zealand we mostly don't have handguns, only a few club members, and daily carry is strictly verboten. Most of our murders are hand to hand combat, drunken brawls or domestic spats which get out of hand. We've had a few high profile poisonings (mostly by foreigners), but knife crime is prolific here, especially among the young. Not so many by gunshot, those are mostly hunting accidents. But add liquor to social disaffection, stir in racial disharmony (Maori academics take a bow), chronic lifestyle errors, and Bam! Another murder on a Saturday night. Not having guns does not stop murder. It just restricts the damage to the two or three people within the drunken reach of the psycho who drank too much that night. We've had a few sadistic robberies ending in being burned alive at the roadside. I think being shot while robbed is a mercy by comparison. But we're still not allowed to protect ourselves - and we have to wait for the mostly unarmed police to arrive. So I don't go out at night. It's cheaper that way. BTW, we have as many men being killed by their womenfolk as the reverse, so it's true, girls can do anything!

Knives and blunt objects (4x2s, clubs, bricks, bats, etc) are counted in a totally different category in the official government statistics. Not only are they counted separately, but they outnumber "gun homicides" by several thousand annually. The 20% left over in this CNN report is still mysteriously nondescript.
