In a sad and horrific story today out of Auckland, New Zealand, a swimmer was mauled to death by a great white shark in front of hundreds of tourists. Adam Strange, who is an award winning television director, was swimming 200 yards off of Muriwai Beach when he was attacked by a great white shark. The attack drew in others sharks to the scene and it took authorities upwards of 30 minutes to retrieve Strange’s lifeless body. Authorities used sporting rifles to kill the great white – tourists said roughly twenty shots were fired at the shark and the shark was later dragged to shore.
Strange is survived by his wife and young daughter.
According to University of Florida there were seven people killed by sharks in 2011.
