The NRA sold us out in 86 and they didn't stop there most recently they support background checks on private sales. You either believe in the second amendment or you dont The NRA is around to make corporations and politicians money. We still have the second amendment because we are armed and will not give that up without a fight.

Greg Mahnke NRA did sell us out in 1986, but now they are taking a 'No Compromise" position because they learned from their mistake. The NRA membership was mostly hunters prior to 2000. Now the bulk of the membership is sports shoots who all all AR's and AK's.

Obama has called out the NRA by name and they are the ones who must lead this fight. The yearly membership is only $35. Can you afford to be wrong? You should support every group there is, GOA, SAF... NRA...etc... leave nothing to chance.

Many gun owners are law abiding citizens. They have guns to protect themselves and also to feed their families. It is a right in America to have a gun. In my opinion, these same people who are in sighting issues of anger in gun owners, are hypocrites. Many do not support women, women's equal rights, equal pay, domestic violence issues, and even American families and workers. They all need to be taxed, moved out of leadership roles, and stripped of their guns...

The purpose of the Second Amendment is to arm people in order to prevent future tyranny. They need the tools to do this.

The term "Well Regulated" in the Second Amendment meant "Well Manned and Equipped " in 1791 as was determined in the 1939 United States v. Miller case after referencing the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. The concept of Government Regulation, as we understand it today, did not exist at the time.

United States v. Miller also determined that the term "Arms" refers to "Ordinary Military Weapons" (not crew operated). American Citizens have the right to Keep and Bear, which means Own and Carry, any weapons that a soldier carries into battle. That includes past, present and future weapons. A Militia consisted of armed volunteers willing to fight with their personal arms and not under government control.

The 2008 Heller v. Washington DC decision reaffirmed that the Right to Bear Arms was an Individual right. The 2010 McDonald v. Chicago decision reaffirmed it yet again and made it clear that it applies to every state, every city and every town in the United States.

To limit the Second Amendment to muskets would be the equivalent of limiting the First Amendment to the 18th century Printing Press.

There are two Supreme Court rulings that directly relate to the current anti-Assault Weapon issue everyone needs to be reminded of.

The first is United States v. Miller 1939. Miller possessed a sawed-off shotgun banned under the National Firearms Act. He argued that he had a right to bear the weapon under the Second Amendment, but the Supreme Court ruled against him. Why? At the time, sawed-off shotguns were not being used in a military application, and the Supremes ruled that since it didn't, it was not protected. Even though Miller lost that argument, the Miller case set the precedent that protected firearms have a military, and thus a legitimate and protected Militia use. The military now uses shotguns regularly, but not very short, sawed-off shotguns, but an AR-15/AK-47 type weapon is currently in use by the military, therefore it is a protected weapon for the Unorganized Militia, which includes just about every American citizen now that both age and sex discrimination are illegal. (The original Militia included men of age 17-45) Therefore any firearm that is applicable to military use is clearly protected under Article II, and that includes all those nasty-looking semi-automatic black rifles, including full 30 round magazines.

The second important case is that of John Bad Elk v. United States from 1900. In that case, an attempt was made to arrest Mr. Bad Elk without probable cause, and Mr. Bad Elk killed a policeman who was attempting the false arrest. Bad Elk had been found guilty and sentenced to death. However, the Supreme Court ruled that Bad Elk had the right to use any force, including lethal force, to prevent his false arrest, even if the policeman was only trying to arrest him and not kill him. Basically, the Supremes of the day ruled that as a citizen, you have the right to defend against your civil rights being violated using ANY force necessary to prevent the violation, even if the offending party isn't trying to kill you.

Both of these cases are standing law to this day.

The Miller decision clearly includes AR-15/AK-47 type weapons as having a military application. The Bad Elk decision means that if the government tries to confiscate your AR-15/AK-47, or arrest you for having one, you can kill the offenders on the spot, even if they are not trying to kill you.

I didn't make these decisions; the United States Supreme Court did.

Look, I'm an ex-grunt with the 101st (B co. 1/327th Inf) and I spent a little time as a sheriff's deputy and currently am a concealed carry permit carrier that carries regularly. The NRA is a necessary evil as are all far-left or far-right ideologies. It's what balances everything out. Kinda like not having good w/o evil etc.. We are products of our environment! When I was home in Tx. everyone watched Faux News. When I went back to Seattle where it SEEMS that the average intelligence level per capita was higher; the news programs were more independent minded. (It's easier and cheaper to get a concealed carry permit in WA by the way and a lot of carriers here. They're just more discreet.) We don't need a ban. We need mental health screening for our children as they enter school so the teachers are better able to teach them and the screening should continue as necessary throughout puberty etc.. That info should be entered into a national database so when "Timmy" tries to get a concealed carry permit or firearm; the governing agency could say, "whoa, wait a minute. This person ain't right." I can hear it now, "that'd be infringing on Timmy's rights". Ya got a better idea at this point in our history?
