Last night 60 Minutes highlighted military suicides by looking at the life and death of Clay Hunt. Hunt who was shot by a sniper bullet in Iraq became an outspoken advocate for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Having lobbied on Capitol Hill and taking part in numerous veterans affairs, Clay’s suicide was shock to the military community. Clay suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, depression and survivors guilt. In 2012 349 active military members took their own life’s, which is more than those who died in actual combat. And according to the VA, suicides among veterans are an epidemic – roughly 22 veterans commit suicide each day.
