Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat, with help from the Wilson Combat design team, of course, sought out to develop the ultimate precision-slash-tactical AR-15, and for this task, they decided to start over from scratch with a custom, in-house matched upper and lower receiver set.
They’re calling it the BILLet-AR and it is entirely machined in their Berryville, AR shop.
They started from scratch to address some of the thin spots and weak points in the AR-15 receivers inherent to the USGI pattern. They’ve also added a handful of changes and features that enhance their receivers’ performance.
The BILLet-AR upper receiver has a precision-machined bolt raceway to lessen carrier tilt and thicker walls all around. It is modified with an oversize magazine well for quick reloads and goes with a simple, tough integrated trigger guard.
Here are the specifications:
- CNC machined from 7075-T6 aerospace aluminum billet stock
STD-1913 Picatinny flattop rail
- Angled shell deflector
- No forward assist,
- Slab-sided for durability and accuracy
- M4 feedramps
- Flared magwell
- Mil-Spec hard-anodized finish
Finally, the BILLet-AR is hand-inspected and tested for a flawless finish and perfect fit.
For now, Wilson Combat will not be selling these receivers separately. If you want to rock these premium parts on your next rifle, you’ll have to order a complete Wilson Combat AR-15 or at least a complete upper with the upgraded receivers.
The upgraded receivers will set you back — it’s Wilson Combat, after all, so you knew that already — it’s $400 for the set, $200 for just the upper and $50 to step up to a NP3-coated Young Manufacturing bolt carrier group.
Right now, with AR-15 prices still running high, even for basic, no-frills models, it’s hard not to just upgrade to a top-shelf model like what Wilson Combat offers. In the end you might spend a couple hundred more, but you’ll get at least double the rifle.
