New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg continually states that his crusade against guns has nothing to do with the Second Amendment. Emerging as the most powerful opponent to gun rights organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Bloomberg has led the nationwide charge against sporting rifles, large capacity magazine and universal background checks. All of which are strategies Bloomberg claims to be common sense initiatives supported by a majority of Americans.
Gun rights activists and protectors of the Second Amendment are weary of Bloomberg and his true intentions regarding guns. His appearance this weekend on Face the Nation did nothing to calm those fears. Bloomberg openly admitted that an AR and/or large capacity magazine ban would do little to nothing to change the number of those killed by guns each year in the United States.
“The truth of the matter is that only about 400 people a year get killed with assault weapons or high capacity magazines,” he said.
Assuming that Bloomberg’s true intentions are to make real change in those numbers and not cursory ones, it’s fair to conclude his and his gun control organizations have deeper and more drastic plans that will emerge in the near future.
