Sheriff Ken Campbell of Boone County Indiana does some simple straight forward A/B testing on how AR’s are no different than most other rifles. Comparing a Mini-14 to an AR-15, Campbell brilliantly highlights the ridiculousness behind proposed firearms bans, as well as common fears surrounding the modern sporting rifle.

Of course we already know that the AR15 and "big" magazines are just representative of the things that anti-gun politicians and their sheeple want to take away from the law-abiding. Sweet mother of...what the hell is an "assault weapon"? If you take the concocted media definition, it's a weapon of war. However, if you search the military records and manuals from top to bottom, you will NEVER find the term "assault weapon". There is a thing called an "assault rifle". This is a term referring to a fully automatic/select fire rifle. The military M-16 is an assault rifle. But then assault rifles have been very tightly controlled since the National Firearms Act of 1934. The simple fact is, there is no such thing as an assault weapon. That term was invented by the news media to make ordinary semi-automatic weapons sound more scary. Oh, and for those who say they took the M-16 and just converted it to semi-automatic to make it legal, you have your facts backward. The AR-15 came first. The M-16 was derived from it. And the AR in AR-15 doesn't stand for Assault Rifle...it stands for Armalite, the company who made it. Oh, by the way. Go ahead and ban guns with clips sticking out. I don't have any. Never seen one in fact. I do have a couple with MAGAZINE sticking out though.

If they want to deter gun crimes here the one law that would help is like they have in the Bahamas. You commit a crime with a gun you get 7 years in prison and then another year for every bullet in the gun! Want to use an AR with 30 rounds go ahead you just got 21 years plus whatever crime you are convicted of!!

no, Martin makes a valid point, you can't make a fair comparison and dispel a supposed myth when the conditions are not equal, ie, rate of fire. There is no way someone is actually faster shooting from 2 magazines than they are from a single one. While overall, the video proves a good point, in fairness, the guy does speed up his rate of fire. Sorry for being logical.

Agree with Matt, anyone could listen and hear his rate of fire was faster and even if both strings of fire were at the exact same cyclic rat there is no way you can do a mag change and gain time. Loved the thoughts presented in the video though, just pointing out what the naysayers will be quick to. The lady was much more uniform in her strings. though and even with a bad bobble on the one mag change didn't add but 8 sec. Liked the having to acquire the 3 targets is much more realistic as far as timed shooting goes. Good Demo though Sheriff

What would have made this more valid is pointing out the the male shooter was trying to get rounds down range quicker to make up for time lost time in reloading. The shots would not have been as crisp or accurate and i think speaks to to a certain point. A larger mag in a life or death situation gives someone a level of security that smaller mags don't as the shooter knows they have ammo to fall back on and can take their time while the smaller mags may force a shooter to be erratic in a real situation. Not saying that's what happened here but it is a good example of what happens when a "secure" mind set isn't achieved even with a professional. He was trying to make a point that it can be done but its done at the cost of accuracy witch is a problem if your trying to protect your family from a group of intruders.

Another good thing to throw into the Mini-14/AR-15 comparison would be to show how easily a Mini could be turned into an "assault weapon" with something like a drop-in TAPCO stock, and how it doesn't affect the functioning or lethality of the rifle at all. Another cognizant point would be to have a chronograph present, as some people who are ignorant actually think that "assault weapon" features like pistol grips and such actually make bullets more effective and deadly (no kidding).

I like it that they fired at three targets, requiring resighting and firing, much more realistic than a guy just emptying a magazine. That meant comparison was more valid. The senior citizen was better at handling the magazines than the girl, giving him a better time. Not a sexual thing, just that he had more practice at it.

All in all, a strong proof that mag capacity should not be an issue.

Shooter in Austin back 30+ years ago was shooting Rem 700, no mags. Yet he killed 20 people. Again, the issue is not mags. The issue is evil people.

In the second video the commentator states AR stands for "assault rifle 15" It does not! AR is for the original manufacturer Armalite. Also, magazines do NOT hold "bullets" they are rounds.

You did not count rounds. He changed magazines with 1 in the chamber. first group fired 9, second group fired 10, last group fired 11.

All of their mag changes involved one round left in the chamber to avoid recharge delay. That's probably okay for time trials at the range, but in another world, when the target is shooting back at you, it is sometimes hard to concentrate on counting your rounds...

I would like to see a set up with targets and have a few different people run thru with hand guns, then rifles and then shotgun over under and see what the differences are. Show where one could hold mags and see if that makes a large difference.

One issue I think they missed was why the magazine change is still quite important. Christie is clearly a fairly skilled shooter, but in one case it took her 8 seconds to change mags, and that was when she had them laid out in front of her on a barrel and was well prepared and at a range. Swapping mags is just something that takes a lot of work to get good at.

When law-abiding citizens are forced to defend themselves, odds are that the entire encounter will be over in 30 seconds. And if you had to arm yourself in a hurry, if you took the time to grab extras, you jammed them in a pocket. Even a few seconds to change magazines could mean the difference between life and death.

It's for the spree shooter that magazine capacity is meaningless. Mass shootings can easily be as long as half an hour, so the bad guys can change mags at their leisure.

Look I believe in weapons and being armed to defend. I'm ex military and trained. This is bogus - the person clearly fires slower with the M 15 than the Mini 14. This will only encourage the anti gun nutters to want all semi auto weapons banned - As they were here in Australia. Best not to even show some things you realise. Watch the trigger pull rate not the weapon firing rate and aiming ability.

wow talk about a odd display of ignorance, I mean look at the lady that thought you could not reload magazines. now I also noticed that in the video with sheriff ken campbell. not to bright. when he talks about the different rounds for each magazine and how many rounds they hold. if you watch when jim and christy shoot there guns the clips and the rounds don't add up. when they did the 1st test with the 1911 service pistol they said that there are 3 clips that hold 7 rounds in each clip but when they did the speed test on how long it would take to empty all three mags the 1st clip he fired only 6 rounds came out so they did not have the clip full. on the 2nd clip it fired 7 rounds that was correct on the 3rd round it fired 8 rounds not correct how can a clip that is to hold only 7 rounds shoot 8 rounds. next they do a test with a a-r-15 1st test is a 30 round clip and how long it takes to empty the clip. jim shoots his and it fires 30 rounds then the 2nd test is 3 -10 round clips and how much time it takes to soot all three clips 1st mag fires and shoots only 9 rounds. the 2nd mag shoots 10 rounds. the 3rd clip shoots 11 rounds now if the man says 3 -10 round clips how would a 10 round clip fire 11 rounds. now its christys turn she shoots the same gun 1st test the sherrif says a 30 round clip but it only shoots 29 rounds not a full magazine, 2nd test 3 - ten round clips 1st clip 9 rounds , 2d clip 10 rounds , 3rd clip 11 rounds again how can a 10 round clip shoot 11 rounds. next test is a pistol that could shoot 30 rounds. and how fast it would take to empty the clip. so you have 2-15 round clips when the test starts the 1st clip shoots only 14 rounds the 2nd clip fires 16 rounds again how doe's a 15 round clip shoot 16 rounds.2nd test is with 3 -10 round clips and how much time doe's it take to empty the 3 round clips vs the 2 15 round clips. 1st clip shoots 9 rounds. the 2nd clip shoots 10 rounds. 3rd clip shoots 11 rounds again how can 11 round come out of a 10 round clip. 3rd test 5- 6 round clips 1st clip shoots only 5 rounds. 2nd clip 6 rounds 3rd clip 6 rounds. 4th clip 6 rounds. 5th clip 7 rounds here we go again 7 rounds shot out of a 6 round clip. next test a-r-15 1 mag holds 20 rounds vs 2-10 round clips. 1st 10 round clip shoots only 9 rounds.2nd 10 round clip shoots 11 rounds very constapated clip. so when I double checked each video I checked to make sure that each gun was not pre loaded with one in the chamber then the clip loaded. and they were not so wow how can this happen.

I noticed a couple things. 1) The firing rates were noticeably slower when the demonstrators were using the 30 round magazines. They really pick up the pace with the 10 round magazines. 2) The pistol grip adds a 90 degree lever to the barrel, which is more effective way to apply torque to keep the barrel from rising vertically with every shot. This gives better stability and accuracy when firing multiple rounds. It is not just aesthetics. 3) The demonstrators had to re-aim after each magazine change. This would be important if they had bothered to mention accuracy of 30 continuous rounds with and without a pistol grip vs accuracy of 3 series of 10 continuous rounds with and without a pistol grip. 4) Threaded barrels give a bullet more stability over distance. 5) That other rifle looks heavy as shit. The AR-15 is lighter, more stable when firing continuously, better accuracy at a distance. The Mini-14 is heavier, less stable stable when firing continuously, less accurate at a distance. It could be easier to stop a crazed shooter if they are using a bulkier, heavier, less accurate rifle where they had to also reacquire their targets every few seconds. If the rapid fire accuracy suffers because of these limitations then I'm all for it. I imagine it is much easier to hit 3 card board cut outs of giant size men than it is to shoot people scrambling for their lives.
