Gregory Schaffer, a U.S. Marine who has recently served in Iraq, is being forced to remove his American flag from the front yard of his Florida home. After an anonymous complaint was filed, the town of Hypoluxo is forcing Schaffer to extract the flag pole he installed in his front yard as it constitutes a code violation. Considered an external structure, Schaffer will need to obtain a building permit and third party contracter if he wants to keep the flag pole – a process that could cost Schaffer four figures.
‘It’s sad. It’s sad that we have to go through that just to fly a flag,’ Mr Scahaffer told WPTV. ’It’s disgusting that anybody should have to go through that. I fought for the flag, now I’m paying for the flag.’
