Tough camera. Hope they sponge up enough for a funeral.

Being around a mortar round when it goes off is one of those "thrills" I managed to avoid for the most part. At least when someone is firing a rifle at you there is an amount of personal interaction involved; with artillery, mortars and rockets it's more a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time (where it lands and when it lands) so it's more impersonal. Either experience is very unpleasant however...very unpleasant!

I got 'lucky' in not having that thrill also...but I sure felt for the SOB's down range with DIV ARTY lined up CAV's MLRS's and dumped the full load. Just be glad you weren't close enough to feel the concussion from BUFF mission. 3 birds, full loads of mixed 500 and 1k.

Dave, I'm gonna take your word on that. I'm NOT from Missouri. ;)

I choose to continue to avoid that thrill...

Got lucky when I played the game, never on the receiving end. ALMOST glad I'm no longer in the game.

That's why I was a 13Bravo.

I got to do some Forward Observer shit when we had down time in Special Weapons. Calling in fire missions with the Ass't. XO and seeing what our 8" rounds could do convinced me that I never, ever wanted to be on the receiving end.

too bad the camera didn't run a little longer. maybe we could have seen if the promise of 72 virgins was true or not.

I slept in the day they were handing out the "designated mortar catcher" jobs...
