Gay gun owners not happy with newly proposed Democratic firearms legislation

According to a gay gun-rights group, the Senate’s “Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013” is a ruse. “It is little more than a scheme to convert law-abiding citizens into criminals for the purpose of confiscating their guns and destroying their rights,” says Gwendolyn S. Patton, a spokesperson for Pink Pistols.

Should the proposed legislation championed by Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) pass,

“It shall be unlawful for any person who is not licensed under this chapter to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not licensed under this chapter, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm.”

In essence, only government-sanctioned relationships will be allowed to privately transfer ownership of their firearms without first having to pass a federal background check. Gay gun owners in states that do not recognize their marriages wishing to transfer a gun to a partner would be required to turn in their weapons to an FFL holder. A subsequent background check would be conducted by the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System.
