As we reported earlier this year, sales of bullet-proof backpacks have soared since the Newtown Elementary School Shooting. And it looks like kids are wearing them.
Business Insider profiled once such child, 5-year-old Jaliyah Boykin, of Colorado. The pink bullet-proof rucksack, purchased from Elite Sterling Security, reaches down to her knees and weighs about 3lbs. Lined with ballistic material that can stop a 9mm bullet, the backpack is one of many products making their way into US schools in the wake of recent gun-related tragedies.
The ballistic packs range in color and design, costing around $375-400 a piece.
