Kahr Firearms is bringing back the all-stainless steel Thompson Custom 1911TC. Kahr first introducted the full-size .45 ACP Thompson Custom as a limited run of just 100 handguns. Although it was popular enough, Karh responded to the explosion in the market for concealed carry pistols and refocused on their more compact products, ceasing production of the 1911TC in 2008.
Now the 1911TC is back. Taking advantages of technical and manufacturing improvements in the intervening period, Kahr is offering the 1911TC at a lower price to appeal to consumers without sacrificing quality or performance.
The 1911TC has a 420 stainless steel slide and frame. The frame is cast and the slide is machined from billet steel. A modern 1911, the design strays from the GI pattern quite a bit.
It has 20 lines-per-inch checkering on the frontstrap of the grip and a matching checkered mainspring housing. The slide has a lowered, flared ejection port and matte target sights. The sights have a swept, low-profile design that run all the way to the rear of the slide and the slide has wide, angled serrations at the back and front.
Inside the 1911TC is a full-length guide rod and a skeletonized medium trigger and combat hammer. The other controls are all extended, including the beavertail grip safety with memory button, manual safety and magazine release. The slide stop is also checkered for better purchase.
The sights and the mainspring housing have a black finish to contrast against the rest of the pistol. Another aesthetic touch is the Thompson bullet logo engraved into the slide, which matches the bronze Thompson medallion in the checkered laminate grips. All of the markings are laser-engraved for exceptionally clean edges.
The pistol comes with one 7-round magazine and weighs in at 39 ounces. With it’s full-size 5-inch barrel the gun has an overall length of 8.5 inches.
All that with an MSRP of just $813. Real world pricing should be at least $100 less than that. For all the details and specifications, as always, check out the product page.
This is one fine-looking Thompson that’s backed with Kahr’s reputation for a terrific degree of quality, durability and precision.
The market for affordable but well-built 1911s has a lot of good options in it. Kahr’s expanding on them nicely with the Thompson 1911TC.
