A West Los Angeles man who police say had 18 pipe bombs, a gun and illegal drugs was a “lone wolf,” who simply had a fascination with explosives.
Robert Wilson, 29, was pulled over for a traffic violation around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night when cops noticed something suspicious inside his car. After a search of the vehicle, which revealed a pipe bomb, loaded handgun and meth, authorities decided to search Wilson’s home.
After police discovered what was described as a “bomb factory” inside his apartment, Wilson was arrested and charged with 7 felony counts including illegal possession of a destructive device, illegally carrying a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.
According to the detectives, Wilson built bombs out of curiosity and had no plans to attack any person or place. Regardless of his intentions, the amateur explosives technician is being held in lieu of $2.5 million bail.
