A man who pulled a BB gun pistol that looked similar to a .45 caliber handgun was killed last week by a University of Akron police officer.
James Genda, 64, was pulled over for a routine traffic stop when the officer asked to see his license. The officer claims that’s when Genda pulled out a handgun – which turned out to be a BB gun.
According to the University of Akron’s Police Chief Paul Callahan: “Officers aren’t in a position to ask, is that a real gun you are pointing at me? You know; they’ve got to respond when those things happen and anybody in that situation would have done the same thing.”
The incident is currently under investigation and the officer in question has been placed on administrative leave.
