An attempted home invasion by three people on Tuesday afternoon ended in one of the suspects making a trip to a local hospital after being shot be the resident of the home.
According to a report by The Palm Beach Post, just after 2:00 the Delray Beach, Florida resident was home alone when three men in a black car showed up and starting knocking at the front door. Not knowing who the men were, the resident ignored the knocking and believed that they had left. However, moments later he heard someone pulling on the back door in an attempt to get inside.
The resident called 911 to report that three men were trying to break into his home. While deputies were on their way to the home, the situation escalated and apparently at some point the resident shot at the men. At the time it was unknown whether any of them had been hit, but they returned to their car and drove away.
Once deputies arrived at the home, they alerted local hospitals of the situation as to be aware of anyone who may be arriving with a gunshot wound. It turned out that one of them had been hit, as the three men showed up at a hospital a few minutes later. Two of the men were arrested right away and after receiving treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm, the third man was also arrested.
While the identity of either the resident or any of the three men is not known at this time, apparently authorities stated that there was a teen involved, who is believed to be the resident.
It was reported that there was more than one shot fired, however it is unknown at this time how many shots were fired, whether the three suspects were armed, or whether those shots all came from the resident. It is also not known what type of firearm was used.
There are currently no reports of the resident being injured.
