Today Guns.com visited the Meuse-Argonne Cemetary and Memorial, the largest military cemetery outside the U.S., in recognition of Memorial day. The cemetery reaches across more than 130 acres of northern France in Verdun.
The Meuse-Argonne Memorial is the burial place of 14,246 American soldiers from across the nation. Most died in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of World War I, where a staggering 187,000 allied troops fell — 117,000 of whom were Americans. These soldiers have been laid to rest at the foot of a white chapel, astride a tree-lined garden leading down to a quiet fountain.
Inside the chapel are the names of the 954 still missing, including those from the U.S. expedition to northern Russia in 1918-19.
