A late night attack Friday in the Adams Morgan area of Washington, D.C. is being investigated as a hate crime, according to the police. The 28-year-old victim, who does not wish to be identified, told officers that he was grabbed from behind by two black males, then thrown to the ground and hit and kicked in the stomach and face. While the two men were beating on him, they were yelling, “This is for Trayvon Martin.” They then took the victim’s iPhone, keys and wallet. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
D.C. police spokesman Araz Alali stated, “There is no pattern in these types of crimes. These attacks are outrageous; we are doing everything in our power to see that they certainly don’t occur. If they do occur, we are going to aggressively investigate them and bring people to justice.”
This was the first known attack of this kind in the area following the acquittal of George Zimmerman.
