A suicide bomb instructor accidentally killed himself and a group of Iraqi pupils during a demonstration in Baghdad Monday.
The unidentified instructor was training Sunni militants in a farming area near Samara when he put on a belt packed with explosives. The bomb detonated, killing himself and 22 members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and injuring 15 others, the New York Times reports.
Police and Army officials said eight militants tried to escape but were arrested. Officials also discovered a cache of other explosives and heavy weapons on site.
An Iraqi Army officer did not identify the instructor, but said he was a prolific recruiter who was “able to kill the bad guys for once.”
