The Albuquerque Police Department recently released the bodycam footage of the officer-involved fatal shooting of a suspect armed with a hammer that took place last December.
APD Officers Hector Marquez and Nathan Cadroy responded to an assault call at a 7-Eleven. The suspect, 37-year-old Andy Snider, fled the scene and ran down a darkened alleyway. When the officers discovered Snider, he rushed forward with a claw hammer raised above his head. Cadroy fired bean bag rounds and Marquez fired his duty weapon, fatally striking Snider, KRQE reports.
Former APD Police Chief Allen Banks said in a press conference held after the shooting that the sergeant on-duty at the time of the shooting instructed the officers to use less-than-lethal force. However, due to the circumstances, they were forced to use lethal force.
