A Buckingham Palace guard raised his bayonet-fixed rifle at a ranting intruder Sunday during a heated argument.
The guard, who normally stands stoic and silent at the north-center gates, left his post to aid another officer. The suspect was shouting and according to witnesses, was trying to force his way inside. The guard raised his rifle at the man, who after being given “words of advice,” promptly left.
An Army spokesman said no arrests were made and no injuries were sustained during the confrontation.
“We are aware of an incident outside Buckingham Palace on Friday,” said the Army spokesman, “and while no-one came to any harm and there were no arrests, we are very clear the that the Metropolitan Police lead on royal security arrangements, including outside the palace itself.”
