U.S. Army base Fort Lee in central Virginia was put on lockdown this afternoon, citing an active shooter.

Base officials released a statement this morning via Facebook page, saying a soldier turned a gun on herself inside the Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters and fired one shot, injuring herself.

The Washington Post reports the woman, a sergeant first class with 14 years experience in service, barricaded herself in an office and shot herself in the head. The Army has yet to identify her.

Additionally, she had been assigned to Fort Lee for three years, and also served in Iraq in 2007 for 15 months.

First responders arrived on the scene at 9 a.m. and transported her to a local hospital. Her condition is still unknown at this time.

Besides the female soldier, no other injuries were reported and after a brief lockdown the base was given the all clear.
