Michelle Medina has always dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps and joining the Navy, but between her age, her weight and later adding two kids in the mix, she never got the chance – until now.
“I’m really excited because this is something that I get to do, I finally get to fulfill, with my kids understanding and being very supportive of it,” Medina said. “It allows me to show my kids that you’re capable. There’s goals that you set and you accomplish no matter how old you are.”
But Medina isn’t just living her own dreams, she has been given the rare opportunity to fulfill a goal alongside her 18-year-old son, Ezekiel. For the first time in 35 years, a mother and son are enlisting at the same time.
Ezekiel explained that it wasn’t planned, it just sort of happened that way. But nonetheless, they are both excited to be entering the journey together.
