Ruger has a sale on two special-edition LCP pistols for one week only, part of the Ruger Exclusive Direct program, where the company offers customers a chance to buy straight from the manufacturer, via Gallery of Guns.

This week’s offerings are two very limited LCPs, one with a metal flake blue frame and a glossy blue metallic slide and the other with a solid purple frame and purple rainbow metallic slide.

These exclusives all sport black barrels, magazines and controls giving them a three-tone look that is sure to appeal to a select crowd. The sale is for this week and this week only, or until the supply dries up.

Ruger is selling the pistols with the help of Gallery of Guns. After registering to buy one with Ruger, customers will be taken to a Gallery of Guns portal to set up the transfer to their local gun shop.

Listed at $399 these special editions are a little more expensive than standard LCPs, which generally sell in the low $300s. Considering the special iridescent finishes, the price isn’t bad at all. Also, a 25 percent minimum deposit is required for the guns.

Apart from the bright new colors these are fundamentally the same LCPs that people have come to trust nation-wide for their personal protection. The LCP has proven to be a lightweight and easy-to-conceal .380 ACP pistol that’s small enough to carry no matter what you’re wearing or doing.

These models use the same pre-set hammer action, 2.75-inch barrels, fixed sights and 6+1-round capacity. The pistols are 5.1 inches long by 3.6 inches tall and just 0.8 inches wide, weighting 9.4 ounces unloaded.

Even if you’re not a fan of these candy-colored mouseguns, the RED program is a neat way for Ruger to do small runs of semi-custom guns. We like the idea and can’t wait to see what’s next, whether it’s a pistol with a complete new look or something else, like a popular revolver chambered for an unusual cartridge.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for future RED announcements, that’s for sure, and you can, too, as Ruger announces them on Facebook.
