Authorities say “There is no longer an existing threat on campus” about a report of shots fired at the school of public health at the University of South Carolina this afternoon, according to the campus alert system.
Authorities are still advising people in the area to “seek safe shelter,” “remain indoors” and “obey officials.”
USC’s campus is located in Columbia, the state’s capital, and within walking distance of the statehouse.
The State newspaper reports that the public health building has been evacuated, and all other buildings on campus are on lockdown.
Officers in SWAT gear are searching the building, while other officers block off the surrounding area.
