A man ended up in the hospital with life-threatening wounds after he broke into a San Antonio home through a doggy door Thursday morning and was subsequently shot by the homeowner.

The homeowner told the police he returned home just after 10:00 a.m. to find his belongings all out of place. Soon thereafter, he came face to face with the intruder and opened fire, striking the suspect several times in the torso.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition, and the homeowner was questioned and released authorities. Neither the suspect nor the homeowner have been publicly identified.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, but if the suspect survives, he will likely face charges.
