One family received quite a surprise when they discovered a man who was running from the police Monday night after being shot was hiding under their child’s bed in their Chicago home.
Authorities came in contact with the suspect around 9:40 p.m. during a gang suppression mission. Initially the man was seen running toward a law enforcement vehicle, but when the officers got out of the car to talk with the man, he immediately fled on foot.
During the pursuit, the suspect tripped and fell, dropping a gun in the process. But when he picked up the gun and pointed it at the officers, he was shot a single time in the upper arm by one of the officers. Still, the pursuit continued and when the suspect came across a home with an open window, he sneaked inside in an attempt to escape from authorities.
Eventually, officers found the suspect in the home, hiding under a child’s bed. He was taken to the hospital while in police custody to receive treatment for the non-life threatening gunshot wound.
His identity has not been released.
No one else was injured during the incident and officers recovered a gun from inside the home, which was occupied by several children and adults at the time.
