91-year-old former SS radio operator charged with 260K deaths

Auschwitz

An unnamed woman who served as an SS radio operator at Auschwitz from April to July 1944, and is now 91-years-old, was charged with accessory to murder for the deaths of 260,000 people whose lives were lost at the concentration camp.

Under Germany privacy laws, the woman’s name is being withheld, and while prosecutors acknowledged the woman may not have had a direct hand in the mass killings, they also argued that since she had a hand in the overall operations of the camp, she should also he held responsible for the murders that occurred there.

The courts will now decide whether the 91-year-old woman, who currently resides in Schleswig-Holstein, is fit to stand trial, a decision which will likely not be made until next year.
