Olive Garden president Dave George spoke to officer Michael Holsworth on the phone Sunday evening about the incident, according to a restaurant spokesperson.
The restaurant apologized, according to the Kansas City FOP Lodge Facebook page.
“This afternoon, a spokesperson for the national chain called and offered a very heartfelt apology,” FOP President Brad Lemon said in the post. “I do not believe this issue occurred because of a company policy. This occurred because of a poor decision of one employee.”
The Olive Garden spokesperson also added it appeared the officer did not speak with a manager after the alleged incident with the hostess.
In a Facebook post he made public and encouraged to share, Holsworth said an employee at the restaurant told him guns were not allowed inside the restaurant located in Independence.
He was visiting the Italian restaurant for his birthday.
