President Obama to delay Afghanistan draw down (VIDEO)

The President announced Thursday that the U.S. is keeping its current troop levels in Afghanistan and will continue to have as many as 9,800 troops on the ground through 2016.

“While America’s combat mission in Afghanistan may be over, our commitment to Afghanistan and and its people endures,” Obama said in a conference Thursday morning in the Roosevelt Room. “As commander in chief, I will not allow Afghanistan to be used as a safe haven for terrorists to attack our nation again.”

While troops were to drop down to a low of 1,000 by 2017, the plan now is to keep a larger force in place after consultation with Afghanistan’s president, Ashraf Ghani.
