The home that was recently targeted for a burglary in a Clovis, California, neighborhood may not have belonged to Marilyn Williams, but she was just as furious when she learned an elderly couple in her neighborhood were the victims. And when the tumultuous duo attempted to make their escape by cutting through Williams’ yard, she was there to surprise them with the rifle she grabbed after hearing the police outside.
“I kept telling at him, ‘I’m gonna shoot you!’” recalled Williams, a former ROTC member who won a medal for her sharpshooting skills.
Williams didn’t pull the trigger, but her actions did cause one of the robbers to drop a mask, a weapon and pillowcase full of jewelry.
The suspects are still at large, but Williams nonetheless noted, “You have to be able to protect yourself and your home and your family. You have to be able to do what you need to do, ’cause sometimes that’s why people are dead.”
