240th Birthday of the Marine Corps (VIDEO)

On Nov. 10, 1775, a committee from the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia and drafted the guidelines for the first two battalions of Marines.

At that meeting, Samuel Nicholas was named Commandant of new force and Tun’s owner, Robert Mullan, became its first recruiter. Now with over 188,800 Marines in 25 infantry battalions, the Corps endures and spans all domains, exemplified by the Eagle Globe and Anchor insignia and its motto Semper Fidelis, Always Faithful.
