A 25-year-old Tulane University med student is lucky to be alive after a robber aimed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger, only to have the gun jam.
When Peter Gold noticed a woman being dragged away by the suspect on the sidewalk around 4 a.m. Friday, he didn’t just keep on about his business, but rather stopped to help the woman. At that point, the suspect turned his attention to Gold, who attempted to explain to the man that he didn’t have any money.
Angry either that Gold was empty-handed or he interrupted his robbery in progress, the suspect shot Gold a single time in the stomach. Gold then fell to the ground and as he pleaded with the suspect, the suspect raised the gun to Gold’s head and pulled the trigger, but the gun jammed.
The suspect can be seen on video surveillance fooling with the gun for a few seconds before finally giving up, getting in an SUV and driving away.
Gold, who is described by the university’s president as “an outstanding student,” was last listed in “guarded” condition.
