Hundreds turned out to offer support, lining the streets, as a decorated Iraqi War veteran was laid to rest over the weekend.
Jonathan Gilotti, a lieutenant in the Army, survived fighting in Kuwait and Iraq and earned several medals, including the Bronze Star, but was shot to death last week outside of his Lake Cyrus, Alabama, home after a morning at the gym.
“This is the only way I know how to show the respect for him. It is a sad thing,” said Wanda Boles, a sentiment echoed by many others in attendance.
“If anything is going to happen, that would be where it would be. It is a sad thing he just walked out of his door and was gone. It’s sad. It is very sad,” Boles added.
Police are still searching for Gilotti’s killer.
