A 41-year-old inmate was shot and killed while trying to escape from a high security prison in Gould, Arkansas, Thursday afternoon.
Christopher Williams was convicted in 2003 and serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole at the Varner Unit for the beating deaths of a woman a her 8-month-old son.
Authorities did not give details of the shooting or how Williams attempted to escape, but Solomon Graves, spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Corrections, said the two officers involved in the shooting followed proper protocol.
Nonetheless, the officers remain on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
