A disabled veteran recently moved from a just over 400-square-feet RV into a brand new, custom built, mortgage-free home thanks to the help of Operation Finally Home and hundreds of local businesses in Waco.
“I made it three feet in the door and turned into a big sobbing baby and then my mom cried, and everybody knows when my mom cries everybody starts crying,” said retired Army Master Sgt. Marc Seal after seeing the home for the first time this week.
Seal served two tours each in Iraq and Afghanistan, and while deployed suffered injuries to his shoulder, eyes and ear, as well as a traumatic brain injury.
Seal, who earned more than 40 military honors, including a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars, said since he medically retired before reaching 20 years, he now lives solely on disability from the VA. But now he has one less financial burden – and a little more space for him and his dogs.
Seal’s home was the 102nd to be built by Operation Finally Home, according to Project Manager Ronnie Lyles, who said they not only provide homes for veterans, but also for the widows of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
