While the big powerhouse names in gun safes have a firm hold on the top of the market, one smaller Midwest company is quietly building a quality brand of their own. Reed Safes are 100% handcrafted in the USA with headquarters in Warroad, Minnesota.
The Reed Safe Company was born of parent company Heat Mor, a specialist in building stainless steel outdoor furnaces. When someone pitched the idea of building gun vaults, the team of metal artisans took the challenge head-on. Company rep Darrell Shaugabay was quick to point out that Reed Safes stand out from the competition both inside and out, with “the most robust locking mechanism within the 3/16” safe market and the company’s unique vertical slider system.
The sliders grip the guns by the barrel and allow an entire rack to be pulled outward for easy access. Gone are the days of removing every gun to access one in back. If the vertical sliders don’t suit your fancy, the company also offers plenty of standard gun storage configurations.
Reed Safes are available in Platinum Stainless Steel collection, as well as Gold Mild Steel and Custom lines. All are 7-gauge (3/16”) construction, feature a 90-minute fire rating at 1200 degrees, and come standard with both a door organizer and LED motion-activated lights. Drill resistant keyed locks are sourced from Sargent & Greenleaf Locks. Weights run from 1,050 lbs up to 1,700, with door thickness options of ¼,” 3/8,” or ½” steel. A limited lifetime warranty covers damage caused by fire, break-in, or attempted break-in. Retail prices run the gamut from $3452 on up to over $9,000 for the best full stainless model with all the bells and whistles. Check out ReedSafes.com for more details.
