Bloodshed broke out just minutes into a planned rally of the Traditionalist Workers Party outside of the California state capitol building in Sacramento Sunday.
About 30 members of the neo-Nazi group were met by a group of counter-protesters of a much larger size. Media reports numbers of counter protesters ranging from 150 to 400.
The melee included not only knives, but baseball bats and wooden boards, broken bottles and rocks being hurled through the air. At least ten people were wounded, more than half of whom were stabbed, and two remain in critical condition. Additional smaller fights broke out as some people attempted to leave the area but were met with violence.
“They attacked each other without hesitation,” said counter-protester Chandra Zafra. “It was a war zone.”
