A former OU Sooner who went to a National Championship and has been working for the Tulsa PD for a decade has been sidelined after hocking his duty weapons.
Tulsa World reports that Michael Ernie Thompson, 35, was arrested and charged with embezzlement and two counts of false declaration of ownership after he allegedly pawned his .40S&W Glock and a Remington 870. While there is nothing illegal about getting a loan from a pawnbroker, apparently Thompson made an illegal substitution of sorts because the guns belonged to his employer– the Tulsa Police Department, which he has been working for since 2006.
Thompson was a University of Oklahoma cornerback out of Bristow High School whose tenure at UO included the 2001 Orange Bowl– the BCS National Championship that year– where they beat the Florida State Seminoles, 13-2.
However, he is now facing a for-real neutral zone infraction and is currently out on $4,000 bond
